About

Sarah Ferdinand is a visual artist based in Bozeman, Montana. Sarah is originally from Maine and earned her BA in Studio Art and Psychology at Hamilton College in New York before relocating to Montana. In her creative practice, she is drawn towards questions of place and identity: what constitutes where we are, how we build belonging, and how location shapes understanding.

In her ongoing project, Glory Days, Sarah examines the role of images in the construction of memory through an exploration of her family archive. The work considers what remains unseen in photographic records—moments of stillness, suffering, anxiety, and normalcy that exist beyond the frame. Working primarily with medium- and large-format film photography, she is interested in the collaborative relationship between subject, photographer, and camera.

Sarah is currently the Photography Coordinator at Montana State University’s School of Film and Photography, where she oversees photographic facilities, equipment, and chemistry.
